Tug of War @ Winterfest!

Information and Rules

  • Sign up
    • Registration at Snowshow Bar on the Deck.
    • Sign up your team of a maximum of 8 members – Give your team a Cool Star Wars name!
    • All teams must fill out a registration form and all players must sign a Waiver prior to competing.
  • Rules
    • Teams of less than 8 members may still compete, but they will be at a disadvantage to full teams.
    • Each match is the best of three pulls – you must win two pulls to eliminate the other team.
    • Teams switch sides between each pull – if the match goes to the 3rd pull, the Judge will flip a coin to determine which side each team pulls from.
    • Starting each pull of the Tug of War match
      • Judge asks each team if they are ready.
      • Judge calls “Pick up the Rope” – your team then lifts the rope off the snow.
      • Judge calls “Take the Strain” – each team GENTLY the slack out of the rope and the Judge makes sure the rope is still centered.
      • Judge blows the whistle – your team then PULLS!
    • Rope markings
      • Red center mark – each pull starts with the red mark aligned with the center line.
      • 2 White marks 13 feet on either side of the red mark – your team wins when they pull the other team’s white mark across the center line.
      • 2 Black marks 3 feet behind the white marks – your team must pull from behind the black mark.
    • Fouls
      • Falling to the snow – you must stand back up immediately.
      • Lowering your elbows below the knee level (“Locking”) – you must raise back up immediately.
      • Touching the snow for an extended period of time – you must stay on your feet throughout the match.
      • Wrapping the rope around your arm – you may only grasp the rope with your hands.
    • The judge will blow the whistle if your team has a foul – you must correct the foul immediately or risk team disqualification!
    • The Judge has the final call on all fouls, who wins, or any possible disqualifications.
  • Format
    • Single elimination format – if your team loses a match, you are eliminated.
    • Teams will be seeded based on overall team weight.
    • Matches begin at 4pm in front of the Snowshoe Deck.
